Bude is unique - tucked away at the top of the county like a best kept secret - once discovered it is not forgotten. The area is remembered as the piece of Cornwall with plenty of space, bracing fresh air, spectacular scenery, and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. It's the place where you can walk, fish, cycle, surf, or swim, where somehow you immediately feel at home and you can simply unwind and escape. You could go ten-pin bowling, swimming at 'Splash', or play tennis. Then of course Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club is just across the road from Surf Haven Bed & Breakfast.
We have some of the best beaches in the country, which have full lifeguard cover during the main season. Low tide reveals a vast expanse of clean sand extending northwards along the coast. Many little rock pools are exposed, and a walk along the shore will reward you with views of the amazing, often vertical, strata of the cliffs.
The whole area provides wonderful opportunities for walking, whether you choose the Coastal Path, Bude Marshes Nature Reserve, along Bude Canal, or to explore the wealth of North Cornwall's footpaths and cycle ways. Bude is also an ideal base for cycling; a series of routes centred on the area has been devised, and the Sustrans cycle way passes through Bude.
Bude is a great centre for touring by car or bus - Crackington Haven, Boscastle, Tintagel, Bodmin Moor, Hartland and Clovelly are all within easy reach.
You will no doubt wish to 'eat out' sometimes. In recent years the number and diversity of quality restaurants and other places to eat in the area has increased. They tend to be locally owned, free from the constraints of 'corporate' menus and free to make the very best of local produce. The choice of places to eat is extensive - in a restaurant, sitting outside, take-aways and fast food, or the many inns and pubs which offer great menus. And of course no one should leave the region without sampling at least one cream tea!
