The village of Clovelly
Just over the Devon border, a short drive north from Bude you’ll find the historic village of Clovelly. This timeless village with its cobbled streets clinging to steep slopes and lined with traditional Devon cottages is a popular destination. No motorised vehicles are permitted in the village and residents still use donkeys to pull sleds up and down the hill. A real gem on the North Devon coast.
The Eden Project
The Eden Project is just an hour’s drive from Bude. Two huge biomes filled with plants normally found in rainforest and the Mediterannean climates nestle into an old China Clay quarry. The biomes are surrounded by well planted terraces lining the sides of the quarry. A real must for anyone visiting Cornwall. It’s one of the most popular attractions near Bude.
Hartland Point & Hartland Abbey
The village of Hartland is north of Bude and offers plenty of interest. As well as the dramatic cliffs at Hartland Point with views to Lundy, the Bristol Channel and out into the Atlantic, the well preserved historic buildings and lush gardens of Hartland Abbey are well worth visiting.
The Gnome Reserve & Wild Flower Garden
For something a little more quirky, a short journey inland will bring you to the Gnome Reserve and Wild Flower Garden. Set in 4 acres of woodland, this great little attraction plays home to more than 1000 gnomes and more than 250 species of wild flowers. Great for nature lovers and gnome enthusiasts alike!
